That Commando Podcast: Feral Launches into Podcasting

For Feral Creative, That Commando Podcast marks an exciting new chapter as we move towards original formats and a more advertising-funded, IP-based income model. Hosted by former marine and award winning author Monty Halls, with GB rower Georgina Menheneott and adventurer and former combat medic Katy Parrott as co-presenters, bringing serious stories and sometimes unserious people together in one place.
About
We've spent more than a decade producing films and broadcasts for clients, but our move to Feral Creative reflects an ambition: to originate ideas, build audiences and create value beyond individual commissions. That Commando Podcast expresses that shift. Rather than treating the podcast as a single production, we are building a format with the editorial depth, visual identity and commercial foundations to grow over time.
Our role spans format development, guest research and production design, through post-production, social content and audience growth. The model also opens a route towards advertising, brand partnerships and IP-based revenue, bringing our creative thinking and production experience together within a project in which we have a series one stake, before handing the reigns over to Monty Halls Sea Dog Productions.
At its centre is a simple editorial idea: look beyond medals, records and public reputations to find the pressure, doubt, failure and questionable decisions behind remarkable achievement. Drawing on Monty’s network across adventure, exploration, conservation, elite sport and the military, each episode will favour revealing conversation over polished hero narratives. The stories are serious, even when the people telling them are not.
Monty is the programme’s consistent lead, bringing the curiosity, direct experience and formidable address book of an author, broadcaster and former Royal Marine. GB rower Georgina Menheneott and Katy Parrott, an adventurer, ultra-endurance athlete and former Afghanistan combat medic, will alternate as co-presenters. Their different backgrounds allow us to shape each pairing around the guest rather than force every conversation through the same perspective.
The draft line-up begins with a stellar list, Steve Backshall, the award-winning broadcaster, explorer and naturalist whose career has taken him into some of the world’s most remote environments. His episode will move beyond familiar expeditions to explore the judgement, vulnerability and persistence required to keep testing limits.
Also joining the series are Helen Glover, double Olympic rowing champion; Pete Reed, triple Olympic rowing champion and Royal Navy officer; Lee Spencer, former Royal Marine and record-breaking ocean rower; and Dan Lowe, former RAF fighter pilot and Red Arrows executive officer. For us, the ambition is clear: produce a filmed podcast with strong preparation, lite but authentic chemistry and enough character to grow without becoming formulaic.
